Grilling Alternatives
When ever possible we like to cook outside. It keeps the boat cooler, cleaner and keeps unwanted smells out of it. After seeing a few grills get torn off the side rails and noticing a distinct lack of room on the stern we had to come up with an alternative. We found in the camping section of Wal Mart a portable Sunbeam gas grill. When using it, I normally place it on the helm seat (flat walk thru transom) but a side cockpit seat would work just as well. Put a boat towel under it to catch any droppings. The portability is great, it can go to the beach or anyplace else. The best part was the price...$20. While we were there we also picked up a single gas burner that also runs on the small propane containers. Can easily boil water for corn, crabs, shrimp, shell fish, etc or heat a frying pan for fried oysters or soft shells! They both fit easily in the cockpit locker. I don't trust the bottled gas, they have been know to leak. The can in use goes in a fabric holder attached to the stern railing, the spare can goes under the top flap of the rescue sling bag.
