Comments White Orchid is the boat of our dreams, our retirement cruising home.  We plan on heading south next fall (98) and coming back to Lake Champlain for the summer(s).   Plan to hit the islands, Florida, etc, etc.  She's aquamarine and navy stripes with aquamarine canvas, with a touch of navy and a touch of orchid. She will be sailing south in Sept '98 to somewhere warm - Florida, maybe Bahamas. By Sept she will be all decked out, completely outfited with everything imaginable (if Susan doesn't catch me first!). We will return to Lake Champlain in the Spring, hopefully to do this until we're sick of sailing or too old. We have a condo in Cape Coral that is currently rented (Thank God!), and hopefully will stay that way until we give up the sailing life.

Boat Name Entry Sjora was a Swedish sea goddess.
Marina Osterville, MA (Cape Cod)
Purchased May, 1998
Longest/notable voyage Our longest voyage to date was Sjora's maiden voyage to Maine. We sailed from Osterville, MA, through the Cape Cod Canal and then straight offshore to Tenant's Harbor in Penobscott Bay a trip of about 48 hours that took us some 50 miles offshore. We sailed east as far as Mt. Desert and the Cranberry Islands, a trip of 4 weeks coming and going.
Rig Standard

Upgrades Balmar 90 amp alternator, Max Charge regulator, Link 10 battery monitor, paralleled the existing 4-D batteries into a single house battery and installed a back-up engine starting battery. Instrumentation includes ST 50 wind and Tri-data, Autohelm 4000 autopilot, Raytheon Pathfinder radar and a Garmin GPS 12 Map interfaced with the instruments. We also added additional halogen reading lights in the corners where we curl up to read and a fluorescent light in the galley. We have also upgraded the stock plastic lights in the galley and head. The addition of an LED in the head acts as a night light so you don't have to turn the main light on for a nocturnal visit.
Planned Upgrades Garmin 235 Chart G.P.S. with Fishfinder, Microwave , Cabin Fans
Comments This is our third Catalina and by far the best. We have moved from a Tanzer 22 to a Catalina 27, then to a Catalina 30 and finally to Sjora our 34. Our home waters are those surrounding Cape Cod but in mid summer we may be found far east in Maine and someday perhaps in the Caribbean in the winter.

Comments Reasons for buying the C-34:
1. Liked the design and the standard equipment.
2. Large enough for an older guy to move around on while small enough and rigged right for short-handed sailing.
3. Many favorable comments on the Catalina e-mail postings.
4. The C-34 has the best website going.
5. I missed the 74 C&C 27, which I sailed for 21 years and sold last August.

Comments Our C34 is on order and scheduled for delivery on April 15, 1998. We currently own a Catalina 270 which we enjoyed very much. Our children who are grown now, decided that cruising is much more fun now that they are on their own so we need a bigger boat to take everyone. Saw the C34 at a show in Racine and absolutely fell in love with it. 'Big Dog' has complete electronics except for Radar. Autohelm was a must as my First Mate likes to take frequent naps which leaves running the boat up to me and "auto". The Catalina Dodger will come in very handy on Lake Michigan. We plan on taking the obligatory Door County Cruise before we try some real North Channel Cruising next year.
