We purchased the boat from the original owner
in Miami Beach. With the help of some sailing freiends from
Michigan, we brought it around the Keys via Marathon back to
Tampa Bay. Our first sail on this boat was 350 miles. |

We're from Scottsdale Arizona and Painkiller is
berthed in San Diego (Californians call us "Zonies"
as we invade their beaches and enjoy their beautiful weather
in the summer ) She's our escape capsule from a hard week at
the office and helps kill the pain of 110 degree desert heat.
Painkiller is also our favorite drink, one which we got a taste
for during our many charter trips to the Virgin Islands, so
stepping aboard will always conjure up fond memories. Contact
us for our "secret receipe" ! |

I replaced both 4D batteries with 4 T125 6V batteries for
a house bank of 470 amps. I added AGT starting battery under
the stbd setee. I ran 2/0 to the original battery switch.
I installed a Link 1000 battery monitor on the house bank
only. I added a Raytheon SL72 radar system. The dome is mast
mounted and the screen in mounted on the Edison pedestal in
the cockpit. The radar display is linked to the GPS, speed,
depth, wind, and auto pilot. All info is available on the
screen.
Radar, cruising chute, 470 amp house battery bank, bimini
and filler to dodger, second reef in mainsail.
I would be willing to share the details with all members.

Adding a cruising chute will probably be follow. |

I'm curious about the history of my boat as I purchased
it from the factory after they redid the bottom with an epoxy
barrier coat. I was told it was used in Texas and the
factory took it back with gel coat problems. Anybody out
there know the story? |

helm and (unlike the 36), tracks well on all points of sail. |

Because we purchased an American yacht and live
in New Zealand, we wanted a name that would reflect the origin
of the yacht. There are already vessels named Catalina and Avalon
here in Auckland, so we chose 'Island Romance' after the 60's
hit song - "Twenty Six Miles", by the Four Preps about
Catalina Isalnd - 'Santa Catalina - the Island of Romance' |
