I have an unusual amount of water collecting
in bilge after sailing. A typical sail would be one half hour of motoring
and 3-4 hours of sailing. I haven't investigated source of water yet,
but I intend to check raw water intake, exhaust to muffler and muffler
to transom, and stuffing box. I'm guessing that water is coming in
while motoring. No water accumulates while boat sits at dock. |

This boat was previously owned by John Gordon and was named
"Apathy". We have not met Mr. Gordon but understand he was the first owner and
sailed a lot here in Hawaii.
We felt a name change was in order since we have always found it impossible to be
"apathetic" about any of our boats (no offense, John).
We saw our first C34 in 1986 at the Cow Palace Boat Show and knew at once this was the
boat for us, and we were right. Since then we've had several other boats, all with the C34
as our goal. We moved off a Rawson 30 ("Seaya", our liveaboard for 10 yrs.) onto
"Seaquel" in May, 2002 and all I can say is "WOW". It's been a lot of
work and worth it!! We are looking foward to sharing information and experiences with
other members. Aloha, Patti & Mike Salomon, S/V Seaquel, Ala Wai Boat Harbor, Hon, HI. |

| How Boat Was Named |
I bought the boat in NY and it was named
Damakata which meant nothing to me. I am not superstitious so I felt
a more meaningful name was necessary. My wife loves gardening so I
felt if I named her after a flower she would like it more..it worked!!
She loves it.
Around the time I bought the boat my father passed away and never
got to see the new boat. So forget me not seems again appropriate.
Also in the summer I often think about sailing so I never do forget
about her.
From all points of view I thought I named her well.

Our first and longest cruise was on Lake Ontario, Canada, from Toronto to

around the prop, dropped our GPS, jammed the furler just as we approached the Murrey Canal
and the wind was building. Also managed to trip on a dock cleat and fall in. However,
since then our experience has grown and we get into less trouble. |

I bought this boat new in 86. It has been sailed on Lake Erie and
Lake Ontario. On September 2, 1996 my wife Suzy and I left Erie for an extended
cruise down the East Coast. We ended up in Marathon January 1997. We sailed
from this port all winter and layed the boat up for a motor home cruise to the West and
Alaska. Will return to Florida Nov 1997 and use Marathon as our home port. The
boat will be returned to Erie about April or May 1998. |
